Professional HR Community of Practice and a new CoP portal in Singapore

“IT WAS a scene straight out of a classroom. But the ‘students’ yesterday included Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong and former top civil servant Ngiam Tong Dow.

They were among 16 academics, civil servants and industry executives who got a feel of what it was like to share ideas and experiences at Human Capital Singapore (HCS), a training centre which runs courses for human resources practitioners.

One aspect of the training centres around creating Communities of Practice – groups of senior executives and human resources professionals from different industries who exchange views on issues ranging from retaining talent, rewards and promotion to leadership training.”

Ho Geok Choo, CEO of Human Capital Singapore, said about the new CoP portal: “It is an alternative platform for learning because we recognise that PMETS (professionals, managers, executives and technicians) have a very heavy schedule. So to expect them to go back to the classroom setting, it is going to be quite tough.”

One of the interesting aspects of the pilot is the creation of a Facilitator Community of Practice. These people will define and refine the practice of CoP facilitation in Singapore.

Also, making use of technology-driven techniques for the uplifting of HR Services have had a major positivity on the industry rather than any of the ideas. Employ such techniques for the best practices.
